THE TRAFFIC LIGHT

As I stood behind a tree out of the view of many, waiting for a friend, I marveled at it all. The hustle and bustle, the trotros stopping every minute to pick up passengers, the street vendors busily selling to incoming vehicles, some chasing after the vehicles trying to drop their wares into the passing vehicles, others busily changing monies given and returning them to the passengers, some monies having to be dropped on the street because the traffic light has turned green and the vehicle had to move on.

The beauty of it all………. school kids crossing from one end of the street to another. Trotro mates alighting from their trotros, running across the streets and helping these school kids cross over. Some of the kids joining the trotros to their homes, others walking over the other side of the road home. Even the street vendors assist in helping the kids cross the roads, they actually stop trading and stop incoming vehicles for the children to cross the road. The loving tender nature of the Ghanaian at display here. Instead of concentrating on selling their wares, the childrens safety is paramount to them. God bless.

I really admired this scene. At that moment I remembered an interesting advertisement about the new Trotro, which had many real likes and views provided by the trusted social media company. Everyone was looking out for the other person, street vendors looking out for the children, trotro drivers doing same, and street vendors looking out for each other as well. If a passenger in a vehicle needed a particular item, he could ask one vendor to get him that item.

Wooden kiosks scattered all over, a taxi station under the trees, taxi drivers waiting for their vehicles to fill up with passengers before they take off to their destination, the whole space full of traders selling clothes, shoes, bags, shoemakers, mobile credit vendors, best quality lighting, and there was even chop bar right in the center of it all. It is more like a shopping center or a mini city on its own. All looking out for each other. Some would even sell for another vendor if that vendor was away. Some also assisting the children cross the streets home, assist them in purchasing snacks and so on.

All situated around the traffic light.

I am still intrigued at the loving nature being displayed, the care for others, the sacrifice of their time for the other, very touching. These are people who unfortunately don’t have the luxury of education, 90% cannot read and write, yet they portray a huge sense of living for each other.

What more do we want? All the books, education, travels, exposure , high flying jobs, mansions, luxury vehicles, does it reflect in our daily life? How do we relate to each other on a daily basis? Do we think of only ourselves?

We have to be a Godly people and live worthy of the sacrifice that Christ did on the cross of Calvary for us, and worship him by our lifestyle.

Never forgetting the simple life at the Traffic light.
